What is Sensing?
Intelligent organisations continuously sense, decide and act in real-time. This is how they remain aligned with their environment. To sense is to monitor what is happening in the environment in which the organisation operates.
It is data acquisition. Sensemaking is an element of deciding.
Sensing is the organisation’s most critical capability. An intelligent organisation’s actions are based on the data that was sensed and thus used to decide the best course of action.
In many respects the ability to develop a full picture of what is happening in the wider world, and within the organisation, is a manifestation of emotional intelligence. In an increasingly disruptive world, organisations with the greatest understanding of their environment are more likely to remain viable.
